In The Mirror

Bang! Bang! The gunshot of a nine-millimeter goes off fracturing her forearm and shattering the frame.  This happens to be a tragedy, which accelerated the escape of a being a product of what Leisa calls the hood, “At that moment I knew San Francisco was not for me” with the    Writing an essay about her experience she was accepted to Clark Atlanta University, and moved to Atlanta, GA with just $600 and an opportunity.

Upon landing in Atlanta in 2001, Leisa was by far glamorous, considering her competition.  In the mirror there was a girl with a troubled past, no money, cheap clothes, bad attitude, and hopes of success with no direction.   Finding her way she had two choices, education or becoming a product of her current environment.  Most of the friends Leisa acquired chose the street life of Atlanta: money, cars, guys, using what they had to get what they wanted
made the education secondary.  Living vicariously through her choice of friends Leisa was able to find a balance within “the life” and education.

Looking at Leisa, it’s not clear that she made something out of nothing with the cards she’s been dealt. Now ten years later, in the mirror is a woman covered in designer clothes, a full face of makeup, curves that others pay to have, bright white teeth and a promising smile.  Leisa is the competition, not because of the immediate reflection on the outside but because of her 2 MBA’s, promising career in corporate America, and her having her own small business.  Not to mention, the good and bad experiences that built her strength, making it possible to distinguish a healthy lifestyle.  There is joy within the wise girl who is now a woman.

Take notes ladies it possible to be an educated beauty…
